Rohr- und Wasserschäden in den Bädern, eingefallene Mauern, defekte Kabel – nach über 35 Jahren in Funktion hatte das Wohnheim „Paula Montal de la Italia“ mit diversen baulichen Schäden zu kämpfen. In dem Wohnheim in der kleinen Ortschaft San José del Palmar wohnen etwa 20 junge Mädchen aus ländlichen Gemeinden, während sie in San José zur Schule gehen.
Um die Lebensqualität der Schülerinnen zu verbessern, waren umfassende Reparaturen dringend nötig. So wurden die Sanitäranlagen repariert, die elektrische Infrastruktur erneuert, Mauern neu errichtet und Wände gestrichen, damit das Wohnheim in neuem Glanz erstrahlt und sich die Bewohnerinnen wieder richtig wohl fühlen können. Außerdem konnte das Wohnheim durch die Baumaßnahmen seine Kapazität für weitere Mädchen erhöhen.
Anmerkung: Die Bauarbeiten wurden durch die Corona-Pandemie und die daraus resultierenden Dynamiken verzögert.
